Who are the White Rosettes?

The White Rosettes are a Leeds-based female barbershop chorus. In October 2022 they won the LABBS National Ladies Chorus Championship for an unprecedented 17^th time and have been European Ladies’ Barbershop Chorus Champions three times!

Under the direction of Sally McLean, The White Rosettes aim to push the boundaries of technical excellence, musicality and performance, and achieve this by entering prestigious national and international competitions and performing both in the UK and mainland Europe. The chorus sings a range of styles, from strict barbershop, to jazz, gospel and show classics.

In 2024 The White Rosettes competed at the Barbershop Harmony Society International Contest in Cleveland becoming the first LABBS chorus ever to compete in this contest.

We love you Sally! Happy ‘Musical Director Appreciation Week’ 💝🌟👏

🏆 it’s Musical Director Appreciation Week 🌟 At The White Rosettes we know how incredibly lucky we are to have ‘our Sally’ She has been MD of our chorus since 1998 and her achievements and dedication over that time are well documented. Her innate musical ability, combined with her determination, ambition, leadership and motivational skills, is of constant amazement to us all. We are also very proud of Sally’s work as a committed educator outside of the chorus. She acts as vocal coach to a significant number of female and male choruses and quartets across the country. Joining the White Rosettes as a singer in 1982, Sally has also won four National Quartet Championships and one European Quartet Championship 🥇 We presented Sally with some flowers last night but in truth we would struggle to find the words or the right gestures to ever express our gratitude, respect and love for her. Her wicked sense of humour. Her compassion and care for every single member. Her ability to hear one wrong note within a chord and correct it magically with one wiggle of her finger. If we’re honest we’re all a little scared of her too - because honestly, how does so much talent sit inside of one human? Is she in fact a Robot created by the Musical Gods? She often appears super-human to us. But we know she’s real because once in a while she will say ‘I love you all’ and sometimes we are even allowed to embarrass her on social media by saying WE LOVE YOU SALLY YOU’RE THE BEST and telling the world how much we adore her!!! Today is that day. We love you Sally - thank you for being the unimitable you. 🚐 Moving House! 🏠

It’s been an exciting - and busy - week for The White Rosettes as we moved to our new rehearsal venue

For many years we have rehearsed on a weekly basis in the sports hall of a local Leeds school. It’s served us well for much of that time but it does get pretty cold in winter especially with outdoor toilets!

So we’ve been searching for a while for a new - and warmer! - venue and finally our fantastic Committee found the perfect new home

Look at those smiling faces! And not a winter coat or woolly hat in sight.

Congratulations also to Jenny who won our surprise raffle, shown here being presented with her prize by our Chair Sally.

We look forward to sharing more photos and videos from our lovely new venue in the weeks ahead 👍
